Longan fruit is not only very delicious but like Lychee Emperor and Lychee Hong Huay, Longan Fruit also has many health benefits. The Longan is part of the Lychee family and they both come from Asia. The fruit has a sweet taste and is often used for cooking. Also, our honey on this website is Longan honey, which in Asia is a very popular source for honey production. Besides the sweetness of the Longan, it is a good source of protein and dietary fiber.
In addition to its native homeland, you will find this evergreen tree grown in Thailand, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. It does need a change of seasons but without frost, which excludes the fully tropical climates. This makes Northern Thailand ideal for growing Longan.
To explain growing Longan a bit better:
Even trying to grow a longan tree in the Philippines – which is just a couple hundred miles south of Taiwan – doesn’t work. The constant warmth and lack of distinct seasons result in the tree not bearing fruit.
